Debconf24!

Annual Debian Developer's Conference 2024

or, you know, Debconf!!! The annual conference I have been attending for a whole year. This year Debconf takes place in Busan, this is mostly going to be about my travel journey and my time there and all the stuff I do, though I might refactor all of this and include other information that might be helpful for someone else later.

My Trip Plan

I am not a big trip planner, so I will keep it as it is in my head, vague.

DEL -> SIN, SIN -> ICN, ICN -> Busan Station, Busan Station -> PKNU

From Delhi

I began packing all my stuff into a suitcase and my bag some 3 hours before I left my apartment, in this, I left behind my phone's backup charger (I had already forgotten my actual charger somewhere else), and forgotten to pack a light hoodie which I now forget being blasted with air conditioning in SIN airport.

From Singapore

I currently write this from Singapore Airport wifi, my flight to South Korea departs in ~2 and a half hours from now, with a 6+ hour travel distance, I might be able to nab a seat at a window, and hopefully inbetween falling in and out of sleep as I have napped a total of 4 hours in the past ... however time works out.

The flight from Singapore to Korea was graceful, having three seats to myself allowed me to nap for some three hours before being able to enjoy a meal and finish "Black Box", a film I started on my previous flight. I haven't had the time to fully articulate my thoughts yet, but I think there's very much to talk about there, will rewatch it when I get back home, hopefully.

Seoul!

Arriving in Seoul was cool as it meant I finally could exit the liminal spaces of transit areas and move out towards cities, though that was haltered by a wait only slightly longer than an hour, after that pain, I converted my cash to KRW, acquiring 400000 of it total which will hopefully last my entire trip.

Not instantly seeing a sim card store and noticing the sign for the airport express (AREX), I headed towards it considering skipping on a sim card for now. Before asking at an inquiry booth who helpfully informed me the sim card stations were on the other side of the airport and I would have to walk there before walking back for the AREX.

Bought a SK Telecom sim card and got a tourist t-money card with it, I will really not need it after reaching PKNU, but better to have internet access, without which how would I keep up with this blog ... and YouTube videos!

I went on to buy a ticket for the non-stop AREX from where I type this update, from here it is to Seoul Station, and to the Korean Rail to Busan, I can't wait.

Update

So clearly its been a while, several months actually, to the point the meetings for the next DebConf have already started and at this point I only reminisce about my experience in Busan, all the nice people I met and worked along side with, and all the cool new things I did that I am already starting to forget, I have big regret for not actively writing all of it down, but it was too fast and too quick for me to be have been able to accomplish that really, the rare pictures I took are available on the git-lfs of Debconf, and compressed gallery versions of those can be found here, and I type this because I don't want to leave this just here to rot unfinished, and I am finally motivated enough to write something out (more realistically, I am frustrated enough to type this out)
